Century Mile Picks – December 7, 2024

Saturday night at Century Mile will see a nine-dash card. The top betting options are the Pick 5, which starts in the first race, and the Pick 4, which kicks off in the sixth.

Eight of the top pacers draw into the $12,500 Preferred which takes place in the seventh.  Samba Beat (Santanna Blue Chip) opens as the 6-5 morning line favourite and for good reason as the six-year-old is looking to win his third time in his last four starts. Shark Week has been plaguing the seas of Alberta but Samba Beat has been able to capitalize when Shark Week is sitting out. Samba Beat has scored four times this year and is looking for his 23rd career win. Gerry Hudon trains the pacer and Phil Giesbrecht is scheduled to be in the bike.

Some stiff competition for Samba Beat is the young gun Mercedes (All Bets Off). The four-year-old has won five in a row and seven of his last eight starts. He enters the top class for the first time and enters with 5-2 morning line odds. Brandon Campbell trains Mercedes but Jean Francois Gagne will be in sulky.
