Century Mile Picks – January 22, 2025

After cancelling last Saturday’s card, harness racing returns to Century Mile Wednesday with a 10-dash card. The Pick 5 wager kicks off the card in the first race and the Pick 4 wager starts in the seventh.

Both Preferred’s are on the program Wednesday night, starting with the $12,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred in the fourth race. A field of five pacing mares is set to go to post and the even-money favourite, Stash The Cookies (Sunfire Blue Chip) is coming in with back-to-back wins. The nine-year-old mare has also won four of her last five starts and five of her last seven. She is one of the hottest pacers in Alberta at the moment and was the winner of the 2024 Westie Award for Aged Mares. She will line up in post position five but is no stranger to the outside post and has shown she can win going wire-to-wire or off the pace.

Outlaw Sharktastic (Smart Shark) is the biggest competition in this race. She has finished second in five straight Filly & Mare Preferreds. Her last win was on October 18th, 2024 and she paced the mile in a personal best of 1:52.4. The seven-year-old mare will need to take the early lead and hold off her opponents down the stretch.
