The Loop Picks – Aug. 30, 2025

The Loop has a nine dash card set for Saturday which will be headlined by the Manitoba Great Western #78. The program also has a Pick 3 which starts in the third race and a Pick 4 that is available in the sixth.

Three Things to This Saturday

Manitoba Great Western Stake #78 – Race 6

The big event of the day is the running of the Manitoba Great Western Stake #78. A full field of nine makes this race really interesting and hard to handicap. The 2-1 morning line favourite, Major Threat (All Bets Off ) will likely receive most of the wagering dollars. He won the MSSBA Futurity Final with a track record for three-year-old’s, 1:59.2. The gelding finished fifth his last time out but will receive post position relief after drawing post two. Richard Remillard will be teaming up once again with Major Threat as he looks to add another jewel to his crown this year.

One who could play spoiler is the filly, Pipers Luna (Im The Pied Piper). She had won four in a row before finishing just behind Major Threat in the Futurity Final. Dean Rey will be in the bike as the duo looks to get back into the winner circle.

One dark horse to consider to upset the field is Made Marvelously (Spinfiniti) who draws the first ever post nine at The Loop. Even though he will be in the second tier, driver Darryl Mason will be able to find good spot in traffic with a few of the inside horses having early speed. The colt is slated with 7-1 morning line odds but could see even greater odds with the favourites taking more of the betting share. Mason is also leading the pack with 12 driving wins and is just one win away from a big milestone. This could be it!

Horse and Gelding Open – Race 3

The Opens are unfortunately separated back into Horse/Gelding & Filly/Mare but they still are very intriguing. On the boy’s side, Ginger Tree Finny (Captaintrecherous) will look to return to the winner’s circle after back-to-back races falling just short. He have his work cut our for him as he will be face some stiff competition . Flying Officer (Riverboat King) is making his Manitoba return and draws the rail. He has early speed and could make things difficult for everyone. Coming off a spectacular homecoming last week, Lookinlikeamillion (Armbro Baylor) now draws the outside in the Open. He could likely leave right off the hop as well and it could be an all out war for the front.

Filly and Mare Open – Race 8

On the lady’s side, Nonversation (Mystician) is coming off a big win last week but does have the unfortunate post seven this week. Personally, this race comes down to likely one of these three, Tina La Vida (Santanna Blue Chip), Hurry Home (Mystician) or Outlaw Spice Rum (Blue Burner). These three will battle for the early positioning and all have the ability to go wire-to-wire.
