The Loop Picks – Sep. 6, 2025
The Loop has another action pack nine-dash card set to go Saturday afternoon.
Three Things to Know This Saturday
Golden Boy Stake Leg 1
Only a field of four draws into the first leg of the Golden Boy Stakes but the race will still be very competitive. The 2-1 morning line favourite, Wednttalkboutbruno (Im The Pied Piper) is coming off a strong third place finish in the Manitoba Great Western Stake. He finished only behind his stable-mate, Pipers Luna, who put up a record mile time and Major Threat. His lone win was paced in 2:04.3 but he has shown he can go faster when needed. Dean Rey will jump into the bike and will be teaming up with the gelding once again.
A potential problem for the morning line favourite, is the horse that drew the rail in Van Goghing Fast (Trust The Artist). He finished just behind Wednttalkboutbruno last week but with half the horses lining up this week, it could be a different story. The gelding has three wins this year with the fastest being in 1:57.2 out in Alberta. Marc Fillion will team up once again with Van Goghing Fast.
A crazy line is the Made Marvelously (Spinifiniti) finished seventh in the Manitoba Great Western Stake but posted a time of 2:01.1! That time would have been good enough to win in Manitoba but instead he was only able to beat out two other horses. He was the lucky recipient of the first ever post nine draw but will get a better spot in post three this week. He has yet to win but has is times are competitive with the field.
Last but certainty not least, is Austins Bud (Whosurboy). He is the lone entry that was not in last week’s Manitoba Great Western Stakes but he finished second by a length. The week prior he picked up his first career win in 2:04.2. He has shown times that should be good enough to beat the other three in here but will be tough.
Silk Lace Leg 1
A bigger field of seven draws into the first leg of the Silk Lace Stakes. The biggest name on the board is Pipers Luna (Im The Pied Piper) who is coming off the big 1:58.3 win in the Manitoba Great Western Stakes. That time stands as the track record for three-year-old fillies and the likely the stake record. She is the only horse in the field to have sub 2:00 times on her lines and has four wins in five starts. The lone blemish is the second place finish in the Futurity Final. She comes it at 2-1 morning line odds but surely will be closer to 1-5 at post time.
Anything can happen with a field of seven on a half-mile track, so if a potential upset could be the rail horse, Smokintheboysroom (Mystician). She finished eighth in the Manitoba Great Western but drew the nearly impossible post seven and she still managed a solid 2:01.2 mile time. This week with a better post and with Pipers Luna likely leaving, Smokinintheboysroom could have a comfy pocket trip. She had finished second place four straight times heading into last week.
Filly & Mare Open
The race of the day once again has to be the Fillies & Mares Open. A very completive race when all seven have a chance of winning. I could spend all day talking about it but just look at the program yourself and see!
