Three Things to Know This Saturday

4-Year-Old Stake (Race 2)

Only a field four draws into the 2025 edition of the 4-Year-Old Stake (it really needs a better name….). At 2-1 morning line odds, Lookinlikeamillion (Armbro Baylor)should be the clear favourite. The only horse in the field to have paced a mile sub 2:00 at The Loop. However, crazier things have been known to happen.

Horse & Gelding Open (Race 5)

With Ginger Tree Finny sitting out, the Horse & Gelding Open is very interesting this week. The morning line favourite, Chief Is Boss (Beren Hanover) draws the rail and is looking for his third straight win. He moves up from the claimer condition and will make his presence know early.

Tuff As Buff (Sunshine Beach) also moved up from the claimers to take on the top brass. He won back-to-back races returning to Manitoba but Chief Is Boss has been his kryptonite over the last two weeks. Both have deserved the chance to move to the Open and both are my top choices to hit the winner’s circle.

Filly & Mare Open (Race 8)

The top race of each week seems to always be the Filly & Mare Open. Last week’s winner, Tami Blue (Blue Burner) draws the rail and could easily be poised for another win. She won in a 1:59.4 stunner at 29-1.

Nonversation (Mystiscian) ran out of track and couldn’t catch up last week and had to settle for second place. She had won the week prior in 2:00.3 for what was her seventh win of the year. At 2-1, the odds makers sure think she will receive most of the betting action.
