Blake Piwniuk Steals the Show With Four-Win Performance on Opening Day

Former Manitoba leading driver Blake Piwniuk made a strong statement on opening day at Track 2, recording four wins on the eight-race card.

His first trip to the winner’s circle came in Race 2 with Manitoba-bred Trust Me A Lot (Trust The Artist). The five-year-old mare, trained by Rebecca Kanak, picked up her third win of the season with a 2:04.0 effort.

Piwniuk doubled up in Race 4 with Kellys Chase, a daughter of Mystery Chase trained by Brinsley Brooking Lutz. The pair completed the mile in 2:03.3.

The hat trick came in the following race when Piwniuk guided Wicked Feeling (Mcwicked) to victory for trainer Mathew Howlett. The gelding closed with a sharp 28.2 final quarter to stop the clock in 2:02.4.

Piwniuk completed the grand slam in the finale with another Howlett trainee, Joe Rich (Custard The Dragon). The seven-year-old gelding matched the fastest mile of the day with a 2:00.4 performance.
